I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I especially liked Midas' flashbacks and memories of his younger self.

Giving types of mountains personalities is an interesting idea to me, especially since we just discussed personification in my Creative Writing class. One girl thought it was best left to poetry, but to me it's about changing your perspective about everyday objects. One thing I thought of was if a mountain moved (to use the old saying) where would it go and why?

Anyways, about your personalities idea, I wonder if Mt. Everest was personified what would it be like? I imagine a weary old man who was sad for all the people trying to climb him. Of course, this could be influenced by the fact that I just read Into Thin Air. I think my view of Mt. Everest would be very different if I hadn't just read it.

Thanks to the gift of a Kindle, I've spent the last day or so rereading The Girl with Glass Feet and happily sniffled my way through the final pages. Again. I understand why it had to end that way and wouldn't wish for a different ending, but it's still bittersweet. I don't easily cry over books, so this is actually a compliment. :) (I think the last author to do it might have been Philip Pullman. In which case you're in very good company.) Sorry about the nerve-wrackingness (is that a word? is now) of waiting to see what the response to the new book will be, but for what it's worth, I'm very much looking forward to it. Hope you had a lovely holiday.

No problem. After you've pulled down the right hand lever climb back up the stone steps until the shadows leave a shaft of light across the dashed graffiti line on the wall (your feet should be at roughly the same height as the line). Turn yourself into a shadow and then climb down and pull the left hand lever, if you do it quickly the dark shadow will hold the stone block up and you can walk through the unblocked passage. Hurrah!

That might have to be in the next SMFN! The same chap has done a few more for them too, along with various other projects - http://www.grandchildren.tv/
Quite often I wish that music videos were novels and I could read the book of such ideas.

Fleetfoxes' video for the song Mykonos has a neat stop motion style, too. And it's probably their best song :)

Hi Susan,

Thanks for your interest, although I'm afraid I don't really know. Atlantic Books (the UK publisher) may be able to help. It's possible they still have some in circulation. http://www.atlantic-books.co.uk/contact_us/general_enquiries.asp?css=1
